Its time to become one with the music by learning to find the TUMBAO rhythm to help you understand how to dance the sultry Cha Cha Cha and sizzling Mambo aka Salsa "on2". We will focus on rhythm, timing, and learning some smooth partnering to enjoy on the dance floor. These 2 hour workshops have been structured to provide you with the tools necessary to make you feel comfortable on the dance floor. NO PARTNER NEEDED. Now is the time to learn to SALSA so that you can dance the night away at one of our upcoming events or when you venture out on your own. Learn to dance with one of the most recognized instructors in the Northwest, George Caceres of Sabor Latino. Saturday, May 1st - 2hr Salsa Workshop In this 2 hour class, you will learn all the fundamentals of Salsa, including rhythm & timing, leading and following technique while learning the 3 basic steps, basic turns and 3-4 beginner partnering combinations. At the end of the class you will have learned enough material to make you feel like going dancing that same night. Oh wait, there's a meetup @ Aztec Willie's this same night, so this will be perfect. This is the workshop many of you have been asking for! Join us for our "Transition from Beginner to Intermediate Salseros" Saturday March 20th 5pm-7pm @ Lenora's Ballroom Studio 615 SE Alder St. (Corner of SE 6th & SE Alder) (Entrance is on SE 6th St. Upstairs on the 3rd floor) This workshop will focus on the key leading and following techniques that will help you get over that hump that we sometimes experience when trying to get past a few months of Salsa lessons. Leads, learn how to communicate with your follow effectively. In addition you will learn key leading techniques to allow you to transition between moves easily and how to turn your follow to the best of your abilities. Plus you will learn turning and spinning techniques to allow you to make patterns more interesting. Follows, learn how to listen to your leads effectively so that you are not anticipating what comes next. Learn key techniques in spinning and following so that you are always prepared for whatever your lead has in mind. This is a MUST for everyone wanting to get over that hump of Salsa dancing. Feel comfortable transitioning from a Beginner Salsa Dancer to an Intermediate one. When: Wednesday, March 17, 2010 Time: 7pm Where: Suzette 2921 NE Alberta St. Portland, OR 97215 We are pleased to invite you to celebrate St Patrick's Day with us! We are going to watch a Salsa documentary and eat at Suzette, a funky little independent café serving the best crepes in Portland located in the Alberta Arts District. What a cool way to spend St. Patty's day... learning about the roots and history behind the dance we all love so much!! Dinner will include one crepe with ham and Monterrey Jack, one with sauteed mushrooms, caramelized onions and goat cheese and a small salad. There is wine, coffee and tea available that you can purchase separately. Any information on dietary restrictions would need to be communicated within 48 hours of the event. The dinner and movie will cost $12 The documentary is called THE SALSA REVOLUTION. It illustrates how Puerto Ricans and other Latinos in New York reinvent Cuban and Puerto Rican rhythms, adding elements from soul and jazz to create salsa.
